TAKA NO DAN!!! New Berserk Movie Trailer!

It's a tiny bit disappointing that they're using the same Susumu Hirasawa track for this trailer, as it would have been nice to hear more music from him for the new Berserk films, but I'll take what I can get. I'm also a bit disappointed that they don't seem to be including any scenes of Guts's childhood flashbacks in these new movies. Those scenes were thematically integral to the manga and the anime, and none of them made it into the first film of this new trilogy. That doesn't look to be changing with what we've been shown so far from The Battle of Doldrey, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

For those who haven't seen them already, here's a trailer for Egg of the King, the first film of the new trilogy, and a censored preview of the first 10 minutes of that film. (PS: The last 30 seconds of that preview clip say more about Berserk than the first 9 and a half minutes.)

  1. The opening credits song is interesting. Also - is that weird fairy thing in this?

Interesting to see what is done with the battles when some money is involved, even if they aren't really the focus of the story. Looks quite pretty for the most part.

  2. "Puck" the fairy only appears at the end of the "Golden Age Arc" in the manga, and these films haven't gotten to that part of the story yet, so that's still up in the air. There are images of Puck in the opening credits sequence, along with some other key characters from the manga that were cut for the anime series (such as the Skeleton Knight, who plays a key role in how the ending plays out), so who knows? The rumor is that, if these films do well, they may do more of them, so they seem to be setting the foundations for the story that goes past what's covered in the anime.

There have been complaints about some of the computer-generated animations looking rigid, and to some extent I agree, but that technology must be saving studio 4°C buckets of cash and that's probably what's making these films possible. If our options are new Berserk films with CG, or no new Berserk films at all, I'll opt for the former.
